Established
in the autumn of 1912, the College
of Commerce began classes
on January 13, 1913. It ranks among the
ten oldest business schools in the United States. The college offers
the degree Bachelor of Science in Commerce (BSC). The Commerce Undergraduate Program Office provides
academic assistance to all Commerce students throughout the year. From its
inception, the college has placed highest priority on maintaining quality programs
that combine both general and specialized learning experiences. To provide its
students with a broad understanding of the multi-faceted forces shaping their
world, the college concentrates a significant amount of its academic work in
the Liberal Studies. Specifically, the general learning experiences are
distributed throughout six learning domains of liberal education: Understanding
the Past; Scientific Inquiry; Religious Dimensions; Philosophical Inquiry;
Self, Society, and the Modern World; and Arts and Literature. To prepare them for entry into a professional
career in business, industry, government, or non-profit institutions, the
college offers students introductory and advanced learning experiences in the
specialized fields of Accountancy, E- Business, Economics, Finance, Management,
Management Information Systems, Marketing and Real Estate.
True
to the Vincentian heritage of DePaul
University, the college
includes within these experiences the study of the moral and ethical issues
impacting upon public and private institutions in society as well as the
individual. The high quality of DePaul
University’s business
programs is validated by the fact that both the undergraduate and graduate
programs are accredited by AACSB – International, the Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business. This distinction is held by only a limited
number of schools of business worldwide.
